Definition

He is the faculty member who is responsible for all administrative, organizational and financial matters related to training (early or advanced experiential education) provided to students. He is also responsible for organizing faculty members’ provision of pharmaceutical services or specialized professional consultation at King Abdulaziz University Hospital (KAUH) and other institutions. The Vice Dean for Training and Pharmaceutical Services is appointed based on his/her good standing by the University President after nomination by the Dean.


Responsibilities

 

  • Supervising and continuous monitoring for the training (early or advanced experiential education) provided to students including administrative arrangements related to rotations and facilitating all matters in this regard
  • Formulating and Arranging contracts or agreements for the purpose of training students according to the bylaws and regulations of the University
  • Working to develop the pharmacy training programs and creating other programs to contribute in the advancement of students’ knowledge and professional skills
  • Supervising and managing the college’s simulation pharmacies, clinical skills lab, and the drug information center in collaboration with other vice-deans and departments’ chairs to improve pharmaceutical skills for all participants and help the community
  • Setting short and long-term plans for proposed pharmaceutical services and programs with timelines for implementation
  • Organizing faculty members’ activities at KAUH after attaining proper approvals
  • Highlighting the role of the University in the community through participating in health awareness activities and community service after attaining proper approvals
  • Supervising all pharmaceutical services and programs at all hospitals or at the community and organizing activities aimed at raising health and pharmaceutical awareness
  • Providing patient and healthcare provider’s education in collaboration with vices deans and other entities
  • Coordinating (with KAUH) and organizing to provide pharmaceutical services of all types.
  • Organizing all pharmacoeconomic and pharmacy administration consultation services.
  • Overseeing and organizing the training process at KAUH in faculty members’ clinical rotations.
  • Starting new general and specialized pharmacy residency and fellowship programs with all required communication duties with organizing bodies.
  • Collaborating and working with the vice dean for development to get national and international accreditations related to the pharmaceutical programs.
  • Preparing and presenting periodical (past and present) reports about activities and accomplishments to the college’s council.
  • Setting and recommending and initiating development plans according to authorities and responsibilities.
  • Providing the college’s council with the semester’s performance reports for faculty members participating in the training and/or pharmaceutical services.
  • Composing a brief report about the pharmaceutical services provided by faculty members.
  • Working with the dean to file appropriate documents to support the financial compensation for faculty members who are working the KAUH or other hospitals.
  • Submitting reports regarding all non-faculty personnel participating in the training process (preceptors) to award the adjunct faculty appointments and granting financial compensations.

Vice Dean office for Training and Pharmaceutical Services’ Organizational Structure

The Vice Dean for Training and Pharmaceutical Services reports directly to the Dean. The Vice Dean for Training and Pharmaceutical Services’ supervises three units to help move forward and assure meeting the college’s desired outcomes and goals:

Pharmaceutical Training Unit

This unit manages undergraduate training and experiential education activities

Clinical Services and Programs Unit

This unit manages pharmaceutical services provided by the faculty and students at hospitals and medical centers. It also supervises residency and fellowship programs

Educational Pharmacy Practice Unit

This unit manages all simulation activities inside and outside the college
